TEF Partners: One of TEF’s Program Partners for this year’s event is the Lupus Research Alliance. This organization is responsible for Lupus Educational Awareness Research for it’s Cure Project. The Lupus Research Alliance is transforming the lives of people affected by lupus through the power of science to drive new treatments, prevent disease progression, and find a cure.
Facts About Lupus: The overwhelming disease Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE or Lupus) is a serious disease that can affect anyone. This disease is most often diagnosed in young women, between the ages of 15 and 44. While the cause is unknown, lupus is an autoimmune disease – in which your immune system attacks healthy cells by mistake – that can potentially damage many parts of the body. There is no known cure for lupus, though effective treatments are available.
While anyone can get lupus, the disease most often affects women. In fact, women make up about nine out of ten adults with the disease. It’s also more common in women of African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American descent than in Caucasian women. Unfortunately, victims with their entire family suffer a daily traumatic experience. To correct this issue, TEF believes healthy eating habits and effective wellness strategies helps the body to heal; fight off unhealthy diseases and women without Lupus can also learn from those who are suffering from the disease.
